From Feedback to Action: Improving the Caregiver Guide

Category: Current Projects
Date: April 2026

During our April 2026 in-person Aging Services Council meeting, ASC hosted an interactive workshop focused on reviewing and improving the Caregiving in Central Texas Guide.

The workshop brought members and community partners together to share feedback, identify gaps, simplify language, and help shape the next edition of the guide.

About the Caregiving in Central Texas Guide

The Caregiving in Central Texas Guide is a resource designed to help older adults, caregivers, and professionals:

  • Understand available care and support options

  • Navigate health and social service systems

  • Make informed decisions during the caregiving journey

  • Connect with trusted local resources

  • Access support across Central Texas

The guide serves five Central Texas counties:

Travis, Hays, Caldwell, Bastrop, and Williamson.

Why This Guide Matters

Caregivers often face complex systems, too many options, and urgent decisions with limited guidance. Finding the right service at the right time can feel overwhelming, especially during moments of stress or crisis.

This guide is intended to provide clear, trusted, and practical information that supports caregivers as they make decisions for themselves and their loved ones.

It offers:

  • Trusted local resources

  • Educational information

  • Guidance across the caregiving journey

  • Support for older adults, families, and professionals

Distribution and Reach

The most recent revision of the guide took place in 2023–2024, with printed copies released in Spring 2024.

Distribution included:

  • 5,000 English copies printed

  • 2,000 Spanish copies printed

  • Distributed free of charge

  • Currently in circulation, with only Spanish copies remaining

The guide has also seen significant digital engagement:

  • 13,000+ website page views in the past year

  • 7,300 unique visitors

  • 6,100 downloads from 2025 to present

These numbers show that caregivers, professionals, and community members are actively seeking trusted local resources.

The Challenge

While the guide is resource-rich, feedback has shown that it can sometimes be difficult to navigate. The current structure is organized more by systems and service categories than by the lived experience of caregivers.

During stressful situations, caregivers may not know what category to search or what type of service they need. This can make even a helpful guide feel overwhelming.

That is where community feedback becomes essential.

Why This Workshop?

The workshop asked one key question:

How can we make this guide work better for caregivers?

Participants worked together to:

  • Identify gaps

  • Simplify language

  • Redesign the structure

  • Think from the caregiver’s perspective

  • Share real-world experiences

  • Help shape the next edition

This was not just a review process. It was a co-design opportunity.

Participants helped bring the guide closer to what caregivers actually need: clear language, practical navigation, and information organized around real-life caregiving situations.

Co-Designing a Better Resource

Workshop participants were invited to:

Think like a caregiver.
Speak from experience.
Be part of the change.

Their feedback will help inform the next version of the Caregiving in Central Texas Guide and strengthen how ASC shares caregiver resources across the region.

Findings from the April workshop were shared during ASC’s May 2026 virtual meeting.
